Wolfie has a secret – he’s not like any ordinary wolf. He loves to bake! Although he has tried to act like a wolf should, he can’t snarl or act tough and doesn’t want to scare little girls or eat grandmas. Baking is his thing.

Unfortunately for Wolfie, three little pigs discover his secret and take it upon themselves to expose him to the World. After spying on him and taking photos, they take their evidence to the newspaper. ‘Wolf in Cake Baking Scandal’ is the headline of the exclusive story…poor Wolfie, his secret is out.
All is not lost. Wolfie soon begins to receive letters praising his baking skills as well as an apology and job offer from the editor of the newspaper. The three little pigs learn the error of their ways and turn up at Wolfie’s door with a gift of a cake mixer. What a great reason to bake along with the help of the three pigs!

Anyone reading or listening to this book is sure to fall in love with Wolfie, not just because of his charming character but because of the link to a traditional tale. Children can be prompted to think about the role reversal and how we should celebrate our differences and what makes us unique. The exquisite illustrations throughout expertly portray Wolfie’s emotions, from his love of baking, the expressions on his face as he concentrates and his horror and disappointment at being found out. The surprises on the pages continue each time of reading as there is always something new to spot. Children will soon be using the pictures to retell this story time and time again.

Wolfie’s Secret is just the right length to keep young children interested and is sure to become a real favourite. It’s perfect for snuggling up together, reading as a bedtime story, sharing with a class of children or buying as a gift. Nicola’s debut picture book has all the elements for becoming a classic feel-good story. The little surprise activity at the back of the book provides a wonderful opportunity for children to try out their own baking skills, just like Wolfie!
